How Changing Our World undertook a massive, multi-year initiative to help the American Foundation for AIDS Research raise $100 million.


“Countdown to a Cure for AIDS” is an ambitious initiative by The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) to find a broadly applicable cure for HIV by 2020. They engaged Changing Our World as a strategic partner in their effort to implement awareness and fundraising programs over a six-year period. Their goal—to raise $100 million in cure-focused research. No small task.

“Changing Our World” developed a carefully integrated continuum of opportunities surrounding corporate engagement, individual philanthropy and grassroots outreach. Our multi-faceted approach enabled constituents to maximize their impact in a variety of ways, which included branding and recognition, employee engagement, license and cause marketing, exposure to research, program sponsorship, events, social media, and personal financial support. And to maximize our reach and effectiveness, we collaborated with public relations agency Porter Novelli—also from our Omnicom network—who were eager to amplify our message. Together, we guided amfAR through many successful corporate partnerships, including a multi-year relationship with Harry Winston—the largest in amfAR’s history.
